Give your website content some impact!
So you’ve gone to the effort to get your website looking professional and have a package with a powerful content management system. The design now ties in with your business branding, and you’ve added plenty of meaningful content. Great!
But what about the look and feel of that content. Does it help or hinder your website’s image?
Now is the time to go back over your site and look closely at the look and feel of that content and ask yourself some questions.
- is it displayed neatly and in a consistant font size and style from page to page
- does the colour of the font and highlighted areas match the site’s design that you love so much
- do impact or important points in the text stand out and are easily noticed
- are the images you have placed in the text a consistent size and do they line up neatly
- are links to downloads easily visible and is the link wording done with SEO in mind
The look and feel of your sites content is very important, as it needs to fit in with the site’s design and feel, and neatly formatted content gives your site a much more professional image.
Help! I’m Drowning
OK, so you’ve added some great, infomative content to your site, but you just can’t seem to get it to look nice. Well, get your web developer or graphic designer to help you out.
If you were developing a brochure or catalogue, you wouldn’t hesitate to ask for assitance, so you should consider this too when it comes to dressing up your website content.
Once they get you started, and you have a webite with an easy to use content management system, you should find that you can take control of the content design for a good while, and only ask for help when you want to set up a different site design or make large changes to your content.
Let Me Take The Wheel
Good website content design isn’t that difficult to achieve, as long as you give yourself some guidelines to stick to. For example:
- set up a style guide for yourself to follow, include things like:
- font size
- font colour
- image position
- link colour
- impact text, size and colour
- text highlighting, make sure it is an appropriate colour
- icon use and position, are they the right size
- text box or table border and background colour
These are just a few, but if you set a number of guidelines that must be followed when adding content as above, you will always end up with a much more professional looking site as the content will maintain consistency through out your whole site.
